Dr. Majid Siavashi is assistant professor of mechanical engineering in Iran University of Science and Technology. He gained his PhD from University of Tehran in the field of mechanical engineering, where he did his undergraduate studies and later his MSc. He spent a year of his PhD research duration at Imperial College London as an academic visitor. Majid developed a new numerical code - as a part of his PhD research - to be used in hydrocarbon reservoir simulation, in collaboration with Prof. Martin Blunt at Imperial College London. This software is utilized to solve thermal enhanced oil recovery problems in heavy oil reservoirs.
Majid has a good background in computational fluid dynamics, multi-phase flow and also inverse methods in heat conduction problems. His PhD work focused on a CFD method called "streamline-based simulation techniques" to model multiphase flow of gas and oil in porous media. His master research was about detection of flaws in anisotropic bodies using inverse heat conduction methods; a non-destructive testing method to detect invisible flaws inside materials, just with use of thermal measurements.
Currently, his research interests primarily lie in the: 1- High speed numerical methods in hydrocarbon reservoir simulation, 2- Streamline-based reservoir simulation, 3- Multiphase flow in porous media, 4- Optimization of thermal systems and 5- Inverse heat transfer methods.
